DRAMA FOR CHILDREN

The New AAovement In Wellington A movement that contains possibilities of much good for the young people of Wellington district: was initiated recently in the formation of a branch of the Junior Drama league. This will embrace the children of lhe schools in and round Wellington and will lead to a regular series of plays for the young. The inauguration took place a few weeks ago. when four plays were presented to a large and interested audience in Wellington.

The work of the league was later considered at a meeting of members appointed by the central committee to organize groups in the various districts. It was suggested that anyone interested could then get in touch with the organizer for her siieeial disirict The organizers appointed were Mrs. Holtliou.se, Karori: Madame Bligh, Hataitai; Mrs. Wedehead, Lower Hutt; Mrs. King, Johnsonville; Miss Jean Mather, Eastbourne. These organizers will be glad to give all information desired. At that meeting accounts were presented for the recital and a small credit balance was shown. It was reported that afliliation with the British Drama League had been effected, an action that would give the branch an official standing. Appreciation was expressed with the standard of performance shown and the producers were thanked for their work.

Organizers promised to report to their centres and expressed the belief that an accession of members would follow. It was decided also to make inquiry about plays so that members would have something on which to work.

Much enthusiasm was shown, and the hope was expressed that in Hie near future an effort would be made to build up a fund with a view to the erection of an ideal children’s theatre.
