BOXING DAY WEDDING

Dew —McCarthy The wedding took place on Boxing Day in St. Joseph’s Church, Waipukurau. of Joan Theresa, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. McCarthy, Waipukurau, and Alfred George, son of Mrs. Dow and the late Mr. Dew, Ormondville. The Rev. Father McDermott officiated, and Miss Frances Atkins played the wedding music. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion with choice gladioli. The bride, who was given away by iter father, wore a bridal gown of ivory stiffened lace, mounted on Ivory lalfeta. Her veil, lent by her cousin, Mrs. C. Smith, was arranged from it halo of orange blossom and pearls and fell in soft folds over her gown. Site carried a shower bouquet of sweet peas, carnations and maidenhair fern. Miss Clara McCarthy attended her sister as bridesmaid, wearing a lavender erepe-de-ehine frock trimmed with velvet 'in a deeper shade. Iler becoming headdress was of stiffened lavender net, held in place with a matching spray and she carried a shower bouquet to match. Mr. W. Dew was best man.

A reception was held at the Ruaiiiue tearooms, which were decorated with a profusion of summer flowers. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy, assisted by Mrs. Dew. Mrs. McCarthy wore a model gown of navy brocaded satin, witli posies of golden lame at the neckline, tmd a smart nffvy hat, and she carried a bouquet of carnations and sweet peas. For travelling, the bride wore a smart suit in air force blue. With it she wore a prune hat, shoes and gloves and a fur stole, a gift from the bridegroom. Mrs. G. Dew’s future home will be in Waipukurau. Her husband goes to camp early in January.

Solomon —Burns

The wedilin.U took place recently in St. Stephen’s Church. Lower Unit, of Thelma Mavis, only daughter of Mr. ami Mrs. C. Burns, Lower Hutt, ami Leslie Alexis, younger son of Mr. ami .Mrs. N. Solomon, West port. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a’gown of ivory slipper satin, modelled on princess lines, the skirt forming a full train. The veil, lent by a friend in Westport, was worn with a comet of orange blossoms and she carried a shower bouquet of cream roses and orchids. The bridesmaids were Miss M. Solomon, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss N. Strange, cousin of the bride, both of whom wore white embossed organdie frocks with white shoulder veils and red velvet sashes, and carried bouquets of' red roses. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. V. Swan. Westport, as best man. and Mr. M. Burns as groomsman. During the signing of the register Miss P. Lawson sang “Because.” with organ accompaniment. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Kandwick tea rooms, Mrs. O. Burns being assisted by Mrs. N. Solomon in receiving the guests. For travelling the bride wore a idle green ensemble with navy accessories. Mr.‘and Mrs. L. Solomon have made their home in 'Westport.
