NEW YEAR’S DAY
Programme Of Sporting Attractions With a continuance of warm, sunny weather probable, holiday attractions over the New Year period should be well patronized. The programme of events is comprehensive, catering for a wide choice. For racing enthusiasts the meetings in the Wellington provincial district are the -Marton J.C., the Wairarapa R.C., the Hawke’s Bay R.C., and the Stratford R.C., all of which begin tomorrow. The junior cricket match for the Brabin Shield, Wellington v. Canterbury, will begin at the Basin Reserve tomorrow. The Wellington senior representatives will play Canterbury at Christchurch and the Hutt Valley* Association representatives will play Christchurch City and Suburban at Christchurch. The Wellington Bowling Centre’s pairs tournament begins on New Year’s Day.
For golfers there is the Miramar Club’s New Year tourney, for which good entries have been received.
The Christmas and New Year Carnival at Evans Bay will be an attraction for family parties. The annual rowing regatta at Picton has attracted large entries and promises to provide keen contests.
