Knowledge Of Early Mining Days On West Coast (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 30. Eighteen days after he had celebrated the hundredth anniversary of his birthday, Mr. Thornhill Cooper, a well-known citizen of . Christchurch and one of few surviving New Zealanders with a personal knowledge of the verv early mining days on the West Coast, died at his home in Papanul today. Mr. Cooper s sketches of mining towns on the West Coast in ISOS’ are among the most valuable historical documents dealing with the days of the gold rushes.
