HAWKE’S BAY IN THE DOMINION COURT

Restful Reception Room INTERESTING MODELS Hawke’s Bay’s representation in the Dominion Court at the Exhibition includes a number of very interesting models of well-known schools in that part of the country—Woodford House, lona College, and Hereworth School. Though the models are on a small scale, they are very accurate, and depict the layout of the buildings and grounds in natural surroundings. They are likely to attract great interest from pupils of those schools when the holidays begin next week. The business area of Napier, the marine parade and bandshells, tennis courts and swimming baths, and a corner of Bluff Hill, are reproduced in a scale model of the town. There is also a detailed area of fine modelling depicting the intensively-settled and closely-farmed district lying between Napier and Hastings, the rich Heretauuga Plains. Hastings itself is represented by a coloured photographic transparency.

A working model of a cannery at Hastings, with the roof cut away to show the tiny figures and moving conveyer lines within, has attracted great interest from visitors. A static model depicts a typical Hawke’s Bay sawmill.

For the benefit of Hawke’s Bay visitors to the Exhibition, a comfortable reception room has been provided, furnished with deep sofas and armchairs of modern design, in white wood and dark leather. Writing facilities are supplied. The room is beautifrflly panelled in heart rimu, and is decorated with fine colour photographs of Napier seafront aud soundshell, a Hawke’s Bay lake, a pastoral scene, and a view down the famous poplar avenue near Hastings. It is a particularly pleasant and restful room, within sound of the chattering cataract at the south-east end of the Dominion Court.

The Hawke’s Bay section includes also a Tower of Knowledge, where some beautiful views taken in the province are shown, and facts set out about this rich and beautiful district.
