YEAR ENDS FOR WAIWHETU TOWNSWOMEN

The Waiwhetu Townswomen’s Guild held its final meeting for the year recently in St, Paul’s Hall, which was crowded with members and friends. Representatives were present from Lower Hutt and Karori guilds. The floral decorations, which were the work of the garden circle, added to the festive appearance of the hall and a beautiful floral decorative basket, the work of the president’s daughter, stood at the front of the stage. There was a large display of handcrafts, the result of five months work of the arts and erafts circle. Business was dispensed with for this meeting.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. and Mrs. Rushton for the beautifully decorated Christmas cake, which they had presented to the guild. Two songs were given by a trio from the Epuni Institute led by Mrs. Spraull, the pianist being Mrs. T. C. Forrester. All were presented with shoulder sprays. Several amusing competitions were held. The prize for the “best, flower in garden” was awarded to Mrs. Willis. Afternoon tea was served, after which the drama circle presented a humorous play. “Cousin Lucy.” Bouquets of red and white roses, made by Mrs. Willis, were presented to the president, vice-president and. secretary, by little Barbara Meiklejohn. A presentation was also made to Mrs. Angus, by the arts and crafts circle, in appreciation of her help at circle meetings.

Party for January Bride. Miss Dulcie Nicolson, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Nicolson, Otaki, was entertained at a kitchen tea in Otaki on Saturday. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent, and" Miss Nicolson, who will be married in January received a large number of valuable and useful presents.

Mrs. D. M. ‘ Burns hag returned to Auckland from a holiday visit to Wellington.

A black sheer coat to wear over light silk frocks is a most useful adjunct to the summer wardrobe. Wilson’s, 52 ■Willis Street, have a good selection, and one, very smart, is finished with black ric rac 'braid and a gold buckle. — Advt.
