FIVE O'CLOCK PARTY

Christmas Celebrations At National Club A delightful and very informal five o’clock party was held in Wellington last evening, when about 250 members of the National Club gathered for their Christmas party. The comfortable lounges were beautifully arranged with tall jars of tawny alstromeria and troughs of purple irises and pink larkspur. Savouries and other refreshments were served by willing helpers co the guests. Complete absence of formality and the “no speeches” order was followed to the letter and a pleasant time of relaxation was enjoyed, specially. by numbers of younger people who attended after tbeir day at business. The hostess was Mrs. Guy Johnston, vicepresident of the club, who received the guests at the entrance to the main clubroom. Her black wool georgette edge to edge eoat was worn over a tailored jersey silk sheer frock of wavecrest green and her black straw hat was straight brimmed and finished with ribbon.

Downstairs the new lounge' was open for the first time and drew admiring' comments from members. Deep terra cot.tr. tweed repp was used for the lounge chair coverings and matching uncrushable velvet cushions showed up well against other brown leather easy chairs. A writing desk in a cosy corner, low tables, shaded standard lamps and bowls of flamingo pink flowers added the necessary touches to give the place a really comfortable and home-like atmosphere.
