Wellington Travel Clubs Christmas Party

A ceiling-high Christmas tree twinkling with coloured lights and silver stars stood in the foyer of the Majestic Cabaret as a welcoming ami festive symbol to the guests who attended the Wellington Travel Club’s fourth Christmas party last night. Seating accommodation was taxed by the large num her of people who attended. Flags attached to tall standards were grouped before the pillars in the ballroom and gas-tilled balloons tied with coloured streamers drifted about the ceiling ami were secured by the dancers during lite evening. A two-tiered cake iced in pink and white, with small figures of Father Christmas standing sentinel at all corners held pride of place on the otficial table. Matching pink carnations stood along the table’s length in tall vases.

Slewart. who was present with -Mrs. Slewart, welcomed the guests. t’be Travel Club had proved itself stronger and better with each year of work, there was a line membership and a host of good friends behind them, said Mr. Stewart. War had affected many lives, but things had to go on the same, and on such an occasion as this it was only right that troubles should be forgotten. A real service to the city was given by the organization such its jierhaps no other body could offer, he said. Travellers were weleomed and made to feel at home in a strange land, and no bar of race, creed or colour was allowed to prevent this offer of friendship from being made. Three Presentations. Three presentations were made to women members. Miss Amy Kane, chairman of the women’s .committee, received a lovely basket of flowers, as a token of appreciation from Iter committee. and .Miss Nellie Donovan was presented with a gift in recognition of her excellent work as secretary. Miss Dorothy Spinks, who has always given her services as pianist, received a silver entree gift in recognition of her assistance. Good wishes on her approaching marriage were expressed by Mr. .Stewart, on behalf of members. A varied and delightful programme, interspersed with dancing for the guests, was presented. The items were as follows: Humorous, elocutionary, Mrs. Lewis Grant; sketch, “The Magistrates’ Court,” presented by the llollingside Players; tap dance- Miss Joyce Smith: Strauss waltz ballet, presented by Miss D. Power-Palmer; tap number, Misses Thelma and Betty Ttinley; Spanish dance, Miss Elaine Seagcr; American dance number-, “Back to Baek,” Miss Mildred Harris and Mr. Diedrick; “A Tisket A Tasket,” by Misses Thelma and Betty Tunley ; Hungarian ballet, presented by Miss Dorothy Parlette. The Christmas cake was cut. and handed round, and later gifts were presented. After supper dancing was enjoyed till midnight.
