UNSWERVING LOYALTY
Soccer Players Ready To Do
Their Part
“The Wellington Football Association, in this- present time of national emergency, has stated and reiterates its unswerving loyalty to the Government of New Zealand in whatever steps may be necessary iu the interests of our country and our Empire,” said Mr. J. Meltzer, chairman of the management committee of the ’Wellington Football Association at a gathering last night of the committee, club secretaries and representatives of the referees’ and interhouse associations.
“The record of Soccer players in the last war,” added Mr. Meltzer, “is one of which we may be justly proud arnd when the call comes or becomes more insistent the Soccer players in the Wellington district will not be found wanting.” Mr. Meltzer mentioned that Mr. A. E. Powers, representative of the Interhouse Association on the management committee, had that night informed him that he had been called up and would be going into camp soon. Members would wish him Godspeed-and a safe return. No one knew what the future might hold in store, but because they believed that they could best serve by carrying on, an effort would be made to continue the competitions next season and thus do their part to keep up the spirits of the game.
