Their Excellencies Attend Brilliant Annual Function

The Government House party arrived shortly after 0 o’clock. Attending Lord and Lady Galway were Major R. G.. Byron and Mrs. Byron, Captain Lord Dormer, Lieutenant R. S. le H. Lombard-Hobson, and Mr. D. B. Fouhy. Lady Galway looked charming in a smart pink moss crepe suede gown worn with diamond clips, bracelets and circlet.

Lieut.-Colonel F. M. Spencer, president of the club, and Mrs. Spencer, who were host and hostess, received their Excellencies. Mrs. Spencer wore a handsome old gold gown of heavy, patterned taffeta, and a circlet of gold sequins.

As the guests arrived they were announced by a commissionaire and presented to the host and hostess. The gathering was a brilliant one, and there were more than 500 dancers present. The upstairs foyer was turned into a lounge where refreshments were served between dances, and the dance was watched by many from the gallery. The decorations were reminiscent of a woodland, for greenery was arranged In cool tracery overhead, and ferns, wattle and other greenery, and iceland poppies were arranged in patterns around the walls. The orchestral stage was gay with Iceland poppies. The energetic committee which organized the function with such success was: The club president, Lieut.-Col-onel F. M. Even the most beautiful gowns worn by the women who attended the annual ball of the United Services Club last night seemed to pale beside the splendid scarlet, blue and gold of the army, navy and air force uniforms worn by the men.
