CHRISTMAS CAKES
Last-Minute Demand Expected
A last-minute rush for Christmas cakes is expected, by managers of homemade cake shops in Wellington whowere interviewed yesterday. Though the demand for Christmas cakes was as good as that of last year, they said, it was not usual to get many inquiries for them till about a week before Christinas Day. Christmas puddings were in good demand. The usual practice of shops it was stated, was to vary tlie designs of tlie cakes made so that customers could choose the design they liked best. In some instances cake designs were specially made in accordance with a customer’s wishes.
One manager said the demand for Christmas cakes and for other lines was usually very good at this time of the year. This year, however, business was worse than it had been for some time. It would probably pick up considerably before Christmas.
