Wellington.— After a severe and prolonged thunderstorm and heavy rain between 2.30 a.in. and 8 a.m. the weather gradually became tine. _ A squally north-west wind blew, at times reaching gale force. Temperatures were mild. The maximum temperature yesterday was- (il.Sileg. and the minimum on Wednesday night w:ih Itl.ldeg. At 3.30 p.m. .vwtcriln.v the temperature was tildcg. and the barometer reading 29.418 in. Palmerston North.— Heavy ram in th" morning, with a thunderstorm about. 9 a.in. The rain ceased at midday and the afternoon was fine, with a gusty westerly wind. Masterton.— Fine and sunny after morning thunderstorm. Strong gusty westerly wind. Wanganui.— Blue sky, cloudy, and a strong westerly breeze. Sea rough. The barometer rending nt 4.30 p.m. was 29.60 in., rising. New Plymouth.—A heavy thunderstorm with torrential rain during the morning but clearing Io lightly overcast in till- afternoon. 'l’he wind was a light to strong northerly and the barometer at 5 pan. read 29.60 in. Waipuluirau.— Heavy showers in the morning, but ,-i warm afternoon with a maximum temperature of 74dcg. The barometer reading was 29.50 in. Napier and Hastings.— -The morning wns overcast and humid, with some light showers-, and the afternoon tine and sunny. North-west wind. Auckland. — Cloudy but tine with a fresh north-west wind. The maximum temperature was TGdeg. and the barometric pressure was steady, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.71 in. Christchurch. — Fine and sunny with a north-west gale. The wind dropped early in the evening to a light breeze. The maximum temperature was 72.-1 deg. and tin- barometer at 5 p.m. rend 29.19iit. and was almost steady. Dunedin.— Sunny, with heavy rain showers at intervals.
