SOCIAL NOTES

There were 700 children and adults at the Horticultural Hall, bower Hull, lust night lor the Boulcott School laucytiress party. The colourful costumes ol the children presented u delighllui iauetv. The mayoress, Mrs. J. V . Andrews, and Mrs. W. V. Dyer aud Mrs. J. Slonebouse, wives of district member.-, ol the Welliiigtou Educatiuu Board, judged the costumes. The programme presented by the children included a variety of laney dances, singing by the school choir, a militui'y two-olcp, u. ts'kiitiiig - dunce uud u lap-baliet. The mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, the chairman of the school committee, Mr. H. Saunders, and ijie chairman of the education board, Mr. W. \. Dyer, congratulated Mr. R. J. Burke, the headmaster, his teaching stall, and the children, on the standat'd of their performance. The official party, which was afterward entertained tit supper, comprised the mayor aud mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. Dyer, Mr. and MrS. Saundew, Mr. and Mrt>. J. Stonehouse, Mrs. Roth-’ me, and Mr. Burke. .Bouquets were presented to the mayoress and Mesdames Sauuders, Stonehouse and Kothuie.

Hutt Valley Liedertafel. There was a largo audience al St. James's Hall, Dower Hutt, last uigtit, for the Hutt Valley Liedertafel’s third concert of its sixth season. Mr. Harry Brusey was conductor, aud Mr. Bryan McMillan, L.R.S.M., the accompanist. The well-balanced choir sang with a tine unanimity and precision. The programme was well chosen aud provided lor a variety of tastes. The choice of soloists was fortunate. Miss Olga Burton, who has a soprano voice of liquid purity, delighted her audience, and Miss Ava Symons, the Wellington violinist, played with her usual artistry.

Petone Free Kindergarten. The Petone Free Kindergarten's breaking-up party was held on Wednesday. The children interested their audience with a programme of kindergarten songs and games. They .presented the Christinas gifts made lor the parents to the mothers, afterward receiving their own gilts from 'the Christmas tree, which was gaily decorated with paper and silver bells and tinsel. The mayor of Petone, Mr. G. Loudon, spoke of the work of the director of the kindergarten, Mies Dorothy Price, and her assistant, Miss 8. Johnson. Among those present were Mrs. W. Nash, Mrs. R. B. Gibbons, acting-president of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Council, Mrs. W. Dowsett, the secretary, aud Mrs. Morton, and Miss England, of the coir.iuit.tee, mid Miss E. Scott, of the Wellington Free Kindergartens. The kindergarten committee members-who organized the afternoon were: —Mrs. V. Vinsen, president, Mesdames J. C. Burns, P. Olsen, Stewai'f, E. Wood, and Eichlebaum.

Kitchen Evening. Mrs. W. Whitley and her daughter, Miss Zelma Whitley, Kensington Avenue, Petone,-g-ave a kitchen tea recently lot Miss Joan Hardiment, dlautaua Street, Lower Hutt, whose marriage to Mr. G. K. Denzel, Ava Street, Petone, will take place shortly. Mrs. Whitley wore a frock of navy-blue onarocaiu, Miss Whitley grecli floral marocain, and 'Miss Hartliraent floral crepe de chine with a white lace collar. A linen tea was given recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. W. Jarman, Lower Hutt, in honour of Alisa Beryl Innes, -who is shortly to be married. .Miss Betty Jarman was hostess. The guests were kindergarten Sunday school teachers. Misses Laura Hicks and Nancy Collins also entertained a party ol Bible Class girls at a gift tea in honour of -Miss Innes at the home of Mr. jpid Mrs. It. T. Collins, Lower Hutt. After games and community singing, the bride-to-be opened many and varied gifts.

Twenty-first Birthday Dance. A large number of friends was entertained at the Randwick School recently by Air. and Airs. A. Benson. Awainutu Street, Lower Hutt, in honour of the coming-of-age of llheir daughter, Miss Lavinia Benson. Mrs. Benson wore a frock of midnight-blue velvet trimmed with silver, and Miss Benson mauve georgette trimmed with ewansdown. The supper-room was decorated with streamers and balloons, and a large kewpie surmounted the three-tiered cake. The tables were decorated with pink and mauve sweet peas and carnations. Miss Judy Lewis gave an exhibition of fancy skipping and a tap dance. .Mr. S. Mason gave two xylophone solos, and Miss Aletheia Benson two vocal solos. Mr. A. Hpwan was the accompanist.
