THE "MEMNONIAN"

Wellington East Giris' College Magazine The chief value of a school magazine is its indication of the taicuts of tomorrow’s generation, and as such the .1938 volume of the ‘'Memnouian,” the magazine of the Wellington Bast Girls College, is very promising. The literary contributions which make uj> the greater part, arc of a high standard. The prose is better than the verso, and the work of the junior forms is of a relatively higher standard limn that of the seniors, which promises well for future “Memnonians.” The editorial is a disappointment. In this feature oue expects some constructive thinking on some matter relating to school life from one of the senior girls, but the editor of the “Memnonian” has written nothing more than a passable Arboi’ Day essay. A pleasing thing about the magazine is its indication of humour, a quality which a great many schoolgirls seem incapable of conveying in words. There are several amusing articles, including a clever parody of Addison. The section devoted to sporting and other activities indicates a varied school life, and the issue may well be memorable for one feature alone. It contains an account of the first school dance to which the girls invited friends from Wellington College and Rongotal. This, after ten years’ segregation, was an event indeed.

Victor Siiebel has designed a lovely ensemble of black wool —high-necked, elongated, jacket with a doublebreasted line, and worn over a boxpleated skirt, and pigskin targets on the jacket.
