LYCEUM CLUB

Members' Christmas Party

Members of the Lyceum Club and their friends gathered in the club rooms on Wednesday night for a Christmas party, given by the president, Mrs. J. C. Andersen, and the committee. Summer (lowers in vivid colours made an effective background for the gay rainbow-tinted balloons and streamers hung about the walls. Guests were received by Mrs. Andersen, who was in a gown of green georgette under a floral velvet cape. Many people wore fancy costumes, "Spanish” women tn silk shawls and tango skirts arriving with silk-clad "Chinese” women and "children" in short, frocks with ankle socks, and bows in their hair.

The programme opened with a chain waltz, followed by a dance for all members. A “singing proverb” game was next, then aii amusing sketch byMabel Constanduros entitled “The Sad Affair in Mangle Street,” the producer being Miss M, E. P. Ahern. Those taking part were Mesdames Herbert, Henry, von Haast, Willoughby, Wilson and. Miss Ahern. After another game, the oen-act comedy “Little Glass Houses,” by Philip' Johnson, was acted. The atmosphere of Regency days in England was well sustained, and the production was much enjoyed. Those taking part were Mrs. Frickleton, blasters, Sample, Thompson and Miss O’Donoghue. The producer was Mrs. Sample. Christmas carols were sung by the glee circle, under Madame de Mauny.

At supper time a large Christmas cake, iced in-blue and gold, the club colours, was cut. Savouries were served and claret cup and coffee handed round.
