The course proper and the trial grass provided good going till the rain began. Ou the course proper Kokako (Cole) and Daisy Chain (Chaplin) finished on terms at the close of half a mile in 52. After traversing the first four along the back against the wind in 544, Student Prince (Sexton) beat Naughty Marietta (Ryan) by two lengths over seven furlongs in 1.36. Student Prince should give a good account of himself in hurdle events in New Plymouth and Stratford. Naughty Marietta is in good order for Woodville.

For a similar effort Lady Kyra (Cole) and Notium also recorded 1.36, the first half-mile occupying 55. Notium is to race at Awapuni, where he may be tried over a distance. He appears devoid of his former brilliance, but is sticking on in improved style. Lady Kyra is in firstrate order .tor the Taranaki holiday circuit:.

Fiancee (Cole) was held back to Filbert (Ryan) throughout half a mile in 52. Filbert is to contest juvenile events in Woodville.

Silver Gift (Grindlay) had little difficulty in accounting for Colonel Bunsby (Sexton) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.8. Silver Gift continues to impress, and she is likely to prove a good winner.

Gold Glare (Fryer) and Le Marquis (Grylls) got to the end of half a mile in 52 2-5.

Dark Eagle (Frisk), under restraint, and Prime Quality (Sexton)- were associated over four furlongs in 52 -1-5. Dark Engle infused plenty of dash into his task.

On the trial grass Chief Lord (Ryan) moved freely over three furlongs in 401. He i.s not being hurried. Race Away (Farland) ran five furlongs at three-quarter pace, tie has developed into a handsome youngster.

11. Seally’s pair, Vivacious and Maahnnui, will be ridden by W. J. Broughton in Woodville and L. 11. Clifford is mentioned ns the probable rider of Naughty Marietta and Filbert.

Kilometre (Sexton) gained a slight break on Algerian (Frisk) at the start of three furlongs and maintained the advantage to the end in 39 1-5. Both youngsters are making favourable progress.
