Columbia's Plans For British Production
CONFIRMATION of the tentative British production plan announced by Columbia’s foreign manager. Joseph A. McConville, on his return from Europe lias been made from America. The deal places the productions at the Denham .Studios, and they will be under the supervision of Irving Asher. It .comprises a minimum of three British quota productions at an approximate cost of over £260.000. The title of the first story is “Q Planes,” an original by Brock Williams. Jack Whittingham and Arthur Limperiss. Laurence Olivier and Ralph Richardson have been engaged for roles. A well-known actress will lie announced for the leading role shortly. It is expected that J. B. Priestley will write an original story for the second production.
“CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT,” a story concorning the settlement of Australia, is being produced in Hollywood by Hal Roach for United Artists. Brian Aherne takes the leading role with Francine Bordeaux, a new star.
