Some Future Productions In England

rpHE first of the Michael Balcon films produced in England, “The Gaunt Stranger,” with Sonnie Hale, Louise Henry, Wilfred Lawson, John Longdon, Alexander Knox, Peter Croft, Patrick Barr and Patricia Roc. was recently shown to trade representatives in London. The film was directed by Walter Forde. “The Ware Case,” again produced by Michael Balcon, and directed by Robert Stevenson, is finished. The cast includes Clive Brook, Jane Baxter,' Barry K. Barnes, Godfrey Tearle, Edward Rigby, Glen Alyn, Athene Seyler, Frank Cellier, C. V. France, John Laurie. Ernest Thesinger, Peter Bull, and Francis L. Sullivan. A new Betty Driver-Jimmy O'Dea film, as yet untitled, is in production. Sonnie Hale has been cast in this film in the role of a Cockney talent scour, and other members of the cast include Milton Rosmer, Basil Radford and Garry Marsh. This is another Michael Balcon production, and is being directed by Walter Forde. Shooting has also commenced on Hie new George Formby film, “Trouble Brewing.’’ Produced by Jack Kitchin and directed by Anthony Kimmins. this film was originally titled “Forging Ahead.” and shows George Formby as a printer's compositor. The feminine lead is played by Googie Withers, the English comedienne. Anna Lee is scheduled to return to the screen in a film directed by her husband, Robert Stevenson, and produced by Michael Balcon. An adaptation of Edgar Wallace's, “The Four Just Men.” is scheduled as the first production for 1939. Michael Balcon and Walter Forde will again act as producer and director respectively, but as yet no east has been engaged. A boxing story by James Curtis. “There Ain't .No Justice.” is also scheduled, and Michael Balcon-has appointed F. P. Tennyson, a great-grand-son of the famous poet, as director.
