YESTERDAY’S WEATHER

Wellington.— Fine and sunny, with a few scattered clouds. The morning was calm, but there was a light southerly breeze during the afternoon. Temperatures were cold, maximum yesterday being 46.8 degrees; minimum on Thursday night was 35 degrees, with six degrees of frost. The temperature at 3 p.m. yesterday was 44.6- degrees, and the barometer reading 30.352 inches. Palmerston North.— Fine and cloudless after a heavy frost, with a chilly southerly breeze. Masterton.— Sunny after a sharp frost of 11.6 degrees. There, was a light westerly breeze off the snow-coated Tararuas. Wanganui.— Fine and sunny, with a light northerly wind. There was a heavy frost in the morning, and temperatures were low throughout the day. Napier and Hastings.—A line day followed the heaviest frost of the winter — six degrees at Napier and seven at Hastings. Bright sunshine but a cold southerly breeze. Waipukurau.— A heavy frost of eight degrees was followed by beautiful sunshine. The maximum temperature was 51 degrees. New Plymouth.— There was bright sunshine all day with a cold southerly breeze. There was a frost in the morning, but the weather tended to be milder toward evening. The barometer, after remaining steady for some time at ■ 30.50 inches, fell sharply in the afternoon. and the reading last evening was 30.42 inches.
