BIG SCOUT TROOP FOR SYDNEY JAMBOREE

560 Boys From New Zealand

LORD BADEN-POWELL TO

ATTEND

The biggest youth contingent ever to have left New Zealand, a troop of 560 boy scouts from the Dominion will attend the forthcoming Australian 150th Anniversary Jamboree in Sydney, in November. This is more than double the number that went to the Melbourne Centenary Jamboree three years ago. The Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell, is expected to be present at the jamboree, and will possibly visit New Zealand either before or afterward, ffen thousand boy scouts will be under canvas in'Sydney for the occasion. The New Zealand contingent will be commanded by Mr. J. R. H. Cooksey, Dominion Commissioner of Training, Hawke's Bay, and will also be accompanied by the Dominion Chief Commissioner, Mr. H. Christie, Wanganui, and Mr. J. Vogel, Wellington leader of the New Zealand Centennial Jamboree organisation. The first half of the contingent is to sail from Auckland on December 20, returning on January 16, and will comprise mainly boys from northern districts of the North Island. South Island and'central district boys will leave Wellington on December 27, and will return on January 23. Besides attending the jamboree, they will have tlie opportunity of seeing something of the countryside of New South Wales, and Sydney harbour, and the environs of the city. It is expected that an even larger contingent of Australian boy scouts will reciprocate by coming to New Zealand in December of next year, to the New Zealand Centennial Jamboree, at Heretaunga, Hutt Valley. On that occasion there will be more than 5000 boys encamped in what will be the greatest gathering of boyhood to have taken place in the Dominion.
