COVENT GARDEN BALL

Vice-Regal Patronage

A large number of Wellington people have been busy for some time past preparing for the Plunket Society’s Covent Garden ball, which will take place in the Town Hall to-night. Yesterday the hall presented a busy scene with workmen transforming its familiar pillars and galleries into a gay little green and red market. Today people will be working from early in the morning to complete the spectacular floral decorations. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Viscountess Galway will attend the ball, arriving at 9.25. Immediately after their arrival there will be a flower procession, followed by the “Golden Lotus” ballet, which is to be performed by well-known Wellington, girls trained by Miss Estelle Beere. Mrs. Philip Cooke’s “Magnolia Ballet” will take place at 11.15. Everyone who intends being at the ball is advised to make the most of the night’s entertainment by being present in time to see these spectacular items. No invitations have been issued, the public being invited to apply for tickets at the D.I.C. or from the Plunket Society secretary. The president, vice-presidents, and executive will be the official hostesses, and Karitane nurses will assist as ushers and will help with the supper arrangements.
