SILVER PLANES ALOFT

Wellington Aero Club Gives Colourful Ball

Silver planes zoomed and dived among Huffy white clouds and flew in stately formation against a backcloth of vivid blue sky at the Wellington Aero Club’s annual ball last night. The Majestic Cabaret was transformed into a bright scene of sky, which turned from pale turquoise in the lower strata to brilliant blue in the higher atmosphere. Great planes left a trail of silver smoke behind them as they hurtled aloft. In milder contrast the effective badge of the Aero Club, in blue and gold, was displayed in prominent places about the walls. Oddly shaped balloons bobbed about the ceiling,’secured by floating streamers, and tall palms stood sentinel among the little tables arranged for the dance in cabaret style. Many dancers, whose tables were situated on the balcony, lent an unconscious touch of humour to the night’s gaieties, by the fact that as the painted clouds partially obscured their movements, they gave the appearance from the floor of being quite at ease in a new celestial house. The foyer was formally arranged with palms, bowls of Iceland poppies and spring flowers. Official guests who were present were: The president of the Wellington Aero Club, Mr. T. C. A.
