THE LAW RELAXES

Wellington Police Club

Entertains

Away from the solemnities of the law policemen can be even more cheerful and exuberant than other people, judging by the dance given by the Wellington Police Social Club last night, for it was a particularly jolly and successful one. The St Francis Hall had been decorated with rows and rows of streamers in every imaginable colour, suspended from th-e ceiling; and still more streamers Were looped along the walls and above the stage, from which the orchestra played. The gallery upstairs was used as a sitting-out place and, looking down from it, the ballroom was unusually colourful, with the many moving frocks seen through the barriers of coloured streamers. The guests of honour at the dance were Commissioner D. J. Cummings and Mrs. Cummings and Miss Cummings; the superintendent, Mr. D. C. Fraser, and Mrs. Fraser; Mr. R. Madden and Mrs. Madden. Supper was served downstairs in a room attractively decorated with green and red streamers. Upstairs a 500 tournament was arranged for nondancers. „ Senior-Sergeant J. J. Powell was M.C., and the committee consisted of Senior-Sergeant O’Neill, Sergeant Beard, Constables Miles, Gunn, Voullaire, Northcote, Wills, Hammond, Lowe (secretary). Detective Reid organised the card tournament.
