Vice-Regal. His Excellency the Governor-General presided at a meeting of the Executive Council yesterday morning. Sterling left Wellington for the north last night by the Limited express. Mr. W. T. Strand, Lower Hutt, was a passenger for the south last night by the steamer express. Mr. J. Evans, Dunedin, was a passenger for the south last night by the steamer express. Mr. R. D. Halstead, Dunedin, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express.

Williamson Picture Corporation, Ltd., left Wellington for the north last night by the Limited express.

Mr. V. Z. Ham, Secretary of Mines in the Union of South Africa, is expected to reach Auckland from Batavia by the Maetsuycker on April 11. Accompanied by his wife, Mr. Ham will spend a short holiday in the Dominion. The Rev. F. D. Buck, formerly of Victoria, Canada, who for the last six months has been vicar of St. John's Church, Cheviot, has been appointed to Holy Trinity Church, Picton. He will take up his new duties on May 1. Mr. G. F. C. Tanner, manager of the Invercargill branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia for more than three years, has received notice of his transfer to Wellington. He will leave for the north next Tuesday morning, and will be succeeded by Mr. G. T. Egan, manager of the bank’s Wagga Wagga branch, New -South Wales.

Mr. E. F. Daly, who has been awarded the 1851 Exhibition Science Research Scholarship, received his secondary education at the Christchurch Boys’ High School. He entered Canterbury University College in 1934. lu 1936 he tied for the Sir George Grey Scholarship and was also awarded the Haydon Prize in Physics. In 1937 he graduated B.Sc., and at the last university examinations he passed the examination for M.Se. with first-class honours in chemistry. Mr. Daly is the third old boy of the Christchurch Boys’ High School to be awarded the 1851 Exhibition Science Research Scholarship in the last four years, the other two being Messrs. J. W. Mitchell and I. Lauder, who are at present in England.
