Addington

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, March 23

There were heavy entries of sheep at the weekly Addington market, the total in all sections being approximately 35,000 head. About 22,000 of these were breeding ewes. Ewes with condition and reasonably good teeth were in demand at an improvement of about a shilling a head on last week, but old sheep were hard to quit, even at low prices. There was a good clearance of ewes, which came in fair numbers from Marlborough, Otago and the Chathams. The fact that the ewe fairs are now over and also the good falls of rain helped the ewe market. Store lambs sold slightly better for good fattening sorts, but others were unchanged. The fat lambs were an indifferently finished lot, and the bulk of the penning sold below 20/-. Fat sheep quality was also lacking, good wethers being very scarce. These improved on last week by up to 1/6 a head and good ewes were also better, but other classes showed no change. Good wethers made 27/- to 30/-; tops, to 33/10; medium to good, 25/- to 26/6; inferior, down to 17/-; good ewes, 10/- to 22/-; tops, to 27/-; medium, 15/- to 18/-J poor-conditioned and old, down to 10/-. Fat cattle: A smaller yarding by 150 head, 418 coming forward. The few good drafts of prime steers sold at recent values, but medium and inferior were bard to quit. Good steers brought £l3 to £l5; tops, to £lB/7/6; medium, £ll/10/to £l2/15/-; fight, down to £B/15/-; good prime cows and heifers, £8 to £9 15/-; tops, to £l2; light heifers, down to £5/15/-; cows to £4/15/-. Fat pigs: A small yarding. The good prices of last week were maintained. Porkers realised 39/6 to 57/6, an average a lb. of 6Jd. to 6|d. Light baconers made 55/6 to £4/6/6, an average a lb. of 6Jd. to 6|d. Store pigs: A full yarding and a slight improvement iu values, 1/- to 2/- a head. Weaners made 7/- to 14/-; slips, 15/6 to 18/6 j stores, 27/6 to 35/6, > _ ~ ■ s
