There was a small yarding of 190 fat cattle for the Burnside stock sale to-day, and the bulk of the entry consisted ot medium-weight bullocks, cows, and heifers, very few prime quality sorts being forward. Prime quality met with good competition, and prices ou the whole showed an improvement of 10/- to 15/- a head on last week's rates. Extra prime bullocks made to £lB/12/6; prime, £l4 2/6 to £l5/10/-; medium, £ll/2/6 to £l2 5/-; extra prime cows and heifers, to £lO/17/6; primes, £7/15-- to £9/2/6; medium, £5/10/- to £7/2/6; light, £4 upward. On a per lb. basis, cattle mav be quoted nt £l/12/- for extra prime bullocks, £l/14/- for prime medium weights, £l/12/- for extra prime heifers, £l/2 for light cows. An average yarding of stores came forward, including a good consignment of steers from Southland, which brought up to £ll/2/6. Young steers and heifers sold at last week’s rates. A small yarding of vealers met with keen inquiry and sold in advance of last week’s rates. The entry of fat sheep numbered 1606, the greater-port being medium and lightweight ewes, with only a limited number of butchers’ wethers forward. Competition for prime ewes and wethers was keen at the beginning of the sale, prices being 2/- to 3/- a head in advance of last week’s rates, but competition eased toward the end of the sale and prices finished on a par with the previous prices. Extra prime wethers made to £l/12/9 ; prime, £l/7/- to £l/10/-; medium, £l/5/to £l/6/6; light, £1 upward; prime heavy ewes to £l/6/-; prime, 18/6 to £1; medium? 13/6 to 15/6; light, 9/- to 12/- A small entry of 904 fat lambs came forward. Competition was keen for prime lambs, and these were firm at lute rates. Extra prime heavy lambs made up to £l/11/6; prime, £l/3/- to £l/6/-; medium. 10/- to £l/1/-; lislit. 16/- upward. Th e small entry of 102 fat pigs met with very keen competition, and prices were firm at last week's rates.
