Upper Hutt Women's Division The Upper Hutt branch of tlie Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union held its meeting this month at the Stokes Valley home of the president, Airs. H. Hawthorn. There was a good attendance of members, and visitors were welcomed from the Lower Hutt and Wellington branches. Among these were Mrs. Preshaw, voluntary organiser, and Airs. A. B. Smith, Dominion secretary. Various matters of interest were discussed by members and special mention was made by Airs. Smith of the forthcoming reception to Aliss Kathleen Courtney, to be given by the W.D.F.U. and the Women’s Institute at the Pioneer Club, Wellington, next Friday.
A weight-guessing competition was won by Airs. Alorris and a members’ race by Airs. Edgar Bentley. Airs. F. Scholes won the monthly competition for the best apple jelly. A presentation was made to Airs. Alawley past honorary secretary of the branch, on the eve of her departure for a trip to England. The bring-and-buy stall in aid of the furnishings for the members’ clubroom at headquarters did a brisk trade under the management of Alesdames Burrell and Sutherland. Afternoon tea was served by Alesdames H. E. August and Edgar Bentley.
