Fair And Model Ship Competition
The nautical week conducted by the Wellington Missions to Seamen concluded last Zight with a nautical, fair held in the mission building. In the absence of the Minister of Marine, Hon. P. Fraser, Mr. C. H. Chapman, M.P., presented the prizes won during the week. The principal attraction nt last night’s fair was a model ship competition, for which some most outstanding models by local builders were entered. The winner of the naval class, Captain W. Johnson, displayed a fine model of the Sovereign of the Seas; complete to even the finest detail. Mr. E. Harniss’s entry in the class, Mayflower, described as an armed merchantman, was also an outstanding piece of work. In presenting the prizes, Mr. Chapman complimented Mr. W. R. Maiden on his success in winning the centre prize for the week, entitling him to a trip to Sydney. He also presented Mr. A. H. Watson with a special prize as winner of the electric train competition, and Captain W. Johnson with a silver cup for obtaining the highest points in any competition. “The week was primarily intended to bring the work of the mission before the public, and that has been the main result.” said the port chaplain. Rev. B. J. Willia'ms. last night. He expressed his appreciation of the assistance given by business houses and the public generally during the week. Following are the results in the model shin sections: — Naval class: Captain W. Johnson, Sovereign of the Seas, 1; Mr. E. Harniss, Mayflower, 2. Merchant class : Mr. George Collier, 1; Mr. F. B. Wall, 2. Yacht class: Captain H. E. Baggett, 1; Mr. A. H. de Troitelles. 2.
