LOWER HUTT INQUEST
Parliamentary Messenger’s Death A verdict of death from heart trouble was returned at the resumed inquest at Lower Hutt yesterday on Edwin John Day, Parliamentary messenger, aged 39. who died suddenly at his residence, 35 Ariki Street, Lower Hutt, on Saturday. Evidence was given that Day went for a swim on Saturday and returned home al; 3.50 p.nt. At 4 p.tn. he was heard groaning in his room and was found lying on the bed groaning and struggling. He was dead when Dr. Rix arrived. He was a widower w’ith live children and bad served in the Imperial Forces. Evidence was given by Erie Eynon Gettings, radio operator. .Brooklyn, a brother-in-law, Agnes Norma AlcChesney. Day’s housekeeper, and Constable R. G. Jones.
Sergeant J. W. Mcllolin conducted the inquest which was held before the coroner, Air’. E. Gilbertson.
Children’s Party. There were. 160 cliild-en at St. Paul’s Hall, Waiwetu. on Friday afternoon, for the party organised by the following committee of the Lower Hutt branch of the New Zealand Co-operative Society:—■ Airs. F. Angus (president), Airs. A. Baker (secretary). Mesdan'es D. Drylie, L. Gee and. A. Jakeman, assisted by Mesdames Crundwell. Langham, Butcher, Beagle, J. Smith, Nelson .and W. Young. A community sing was conducted by Mr. 11. Nicholson and Airs. A. Jakeman. Two clowns (Alessrs. T. Pincock and T. L. Walker), contributed greatly to the fun of the party. The appearance of “the lady of the basket” (Airs. Beagle) in a beautiful early Victorian dress and hat was received with joy by the children, for in the basket was a present for everyone. Airs. F. Angus and Air. H. Nicholson assisted in the distribution of the gifts.
