GREAT SUCCESS

Wairarapa Charity Ball New standards of sociability and enjoyment were reached at the annual Wairarapa Charity Ball, held in the Masterton Municipal Hall. The decorations, designed and carried out by Mr. L. Robinson, were among the most attractive seen in the hall for some time. A profusion of beautiful clusters of wisteria and chrysanthemums seemed to grow round the walls, while the stage resembled a flower-strewn bower. Splendid work was carried out by the following men’s committee: —Messrs. L. Robinson, F. Corry, J. Cairns, M. McUllen, R. Wallace, W. Green, R. Johnson, J. Curry, A. O’Leary, W. McArley and J. McDonald. The supper arrangements were of the usual high standard, and the women’s committee was as follows:—Mesdames Bunny, Stillburn, Jameson, Keisenberg, Hogan, Dwyer, Connors, Herbert, Carrie, Percy, Spring, Gordon, Penson, Michell, Brooks, Misses McKenna, Frost, Wickens and Buckley. A feature of the ball was the presentation of debutantes to his Grace Archbishop O’Shea. The matrons of honour were Mesdames D. H. S. Riddiford, Featherston, and A. R. Bunny, Masterton. His Grace and accompanying prelates were received by Messrs. F. Corry, J. W. Card, E. 0. White, J. Jameson, J. Savage, D. B. Curry and J. F. Bradbury. Mr. W. Green was marshal and the debutantes were announced by Mr. F. Corry. Miss Card and Mrs. C. Stilborn were chaperons. The debutantes were: Misses Thelma Williams, Mollie Bannister, Norah McMullen, Doris Williams, Mollie Scanlon (all of Masterton), Jean Kenny and Betty Kenny (Mauriceville), Molly Rutherford (Pahiatua), and Phyllis Miller (Ohingaiti). Much of the credit of the ball was due to the untiring and excellent work of the secretary. Miss M. Diggins, who spared no effort to ensure its success. The duties of M.C.’s were carried out by Messrs. J. J. Hunter, B. Iveson and W. O. Orange. Splendid music was provided by two dance bands.
