NEGLIGENT DRIVING
Collision With Parked Car In bin opinion the defendant in a negligent driving case, Frederick William Smith, Wellington, was not in a fit state to drive when he saw him after his car collided with a parked car, but his superior officer said it was a borderline cim.'. stated Constable C. J. Dwyer in the Magistrate’s Court, Lower Hutt, yesterday. Tlte collision with the parked ear occurred at 6.20 p.m. in Woburn Road near St. Alban’s Avenue, said Constable Dwyer. When he arrived he could not find Smith, but eventually located him 100 yards away. At first Smith denied he was the driver of the car, but he later admitted it. He was under the influence of liquor and admitted he had had live handles of beer at a hotel. Smith said he was afraid of what might happen, and when stopped was on his way to catch the first available bus to Wellington, Smith was fined £5 with costs 10/- for negligent driving, and 10/- with costs 10/for driving without a licence. Sergeant J. IV. Mcilolm prosecuted.
