By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, April 19.

The appeal of a Chinese, Dong Wai, against a conviction and fines totalling £5O at Tauranga for being in possession of opium and an opium pipe was 'allowed by Mr. Justice Callan. The judge said it had been proved that the d ffendant informed a constable that an assistant, Ab Dong, was an opium smoker, and invited the constable to do something about it. His Honour accepted the appellant’s evidence that after an interview with the constable he had dismissed Ah Dong, and that the latter left the opium and pipe behind him. The conviction was quashed.
