THE DUKE OF WINDSOR
Appreciation of Services to Returned Men By Telegrqph—Press Association. Dannevirke, April 15. Before commencing the annual meeting of the Dannevirke district Returned" Soldiers’ Association last evening, the chairman, Mr. J. Bradley, referred briefly to the abdication of King Edward VIII, and said they were proud of the part played -by him as Prince of Wales. He had served in the forces in France, and many of them remembered his visit to their division in Egypt. They deeply regretted his abdication. King George VI had also served his country well during the war years. They now owed allegiance to him. On Mr. Bradley’s motion it was decided to place on record appreciation of the great services performed for all returned .men by the ex-King and humbly to offer allegiance to King George VI. There were three or four dissentients, one member remarking that he thought they could quite easily have left this subject alone. “I think,” he said, ‘‘the least said about it the better."
