CONCERT FOR SCHOOL BAND
There was not n vacant seat at the Hutt Valley High School on Friday evening, when a concert of particular merit, organised b.v Mr. D. McKenzie, was held in’ aid of the high school band. The stage was tastefully arranged as it drawingroom. The performers included a number of well-known vocalists and instrumentalists, and tlie programme comprised ;—Trios, "Lisolette,” “Minuet,” “The Countess of Westmoreland |s Delight” (Shields), Mrs. 11. S. Robertson (violin), Mrs. D. IV. McKenzie (’cello), Mrs. W. G. Gentry (piano) ; recitation. "Opening tlie Village Bazaar.” Bryce Glennie: song, "Linden Lea” (R. Vaughan Williams), Mr. Roy Hill; ’cello solo, "Songs Without Words” (Mendelssohn),' Mrs. D. IV. McKenzie; dramatic sketch, “The Secoiiu Guest,” by 11. Beresford and C. S. Seale, the cast being Major Challoner (Mr. J. M. Carlson), Sir James Lister (Mr. J. W. Corbett); trios, "Rosamunde” (Schubert), “Serenade” (VVidor), Mrs. 11. S. Robertson, Mrs. D. W. McKenzie, Miss W. G. Gentry: songs, “Maureen” (Robertson), "Cockles and Mussels” (traditional Irish air), Mr. W. Roy Hill; recitation, “At the Photographers.” Bryce Glennie; song, “Ciribiribin,” Miss Hilda Webster; conjuring. Mr. 11. L. Meek.
