MARITIME STRIKE
Effort at Settlement on Atlantic Coast (Received November 17, 12.30 a.m.) New York, November 16. Departing to preside at the United States conference of mayors at Washington. Mr. F. La Guardia, mayor of New York, said he was going to do what he could to bring the East. Coast within the machinery of the Maritime Strike Settlement Commission, pointing out that in the fight here between the two unions a way should be found to elect qualified representatives to arbitrate with the owners. Mr. Baker, president of the American Steamship Owners’ Association, declared that the movements of ships along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts were practically normal over the week-end.
