NGAIO LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

The second birthday of the Ngaio branch of the League of Mothers was celebrated recently when Mrs. Cummings presided over a large gatberiug of members and friends. Representatives from the Khandallab, Johnsonville and Island Bay branches were given a special welcome.

In response to several requests, Mrs. Rollings repeated her talk on “The Little Palace Beautiful.” This is a beautiful fantasy depicting four rooms of a palace wherein dwell four child-ren-—the child that never was;' the child that was; the child that is; and the child that is to be—and telling of the influence of each in the world. Mrs. Rollings was warmly thanked for her fine address, and received a bouquet of beautiful azaleas.

Recitations by Mrs. George Castle and songs by Mrs. Chiverall were very much enjoyed, each lady receiving a posy. An amusing competition helped members to get to know each other better, Mrs. Connelly being the winner of this popular event. After tea had been served, Mrs. Rollings cut the birthday cake, which had been made and presented by Mrs. Cummings. Mrs. Wilman sang “Many Happy Returns of the Day” while the cake was cut for distribution among members.

The children present were very well catered for, a special party tea, in charge of Mrs. Turksma, having been prepared. A paper bat for each child added a festive appearance to the occasion. During the afternoon Mrs. Bringans, on behalf of the members of tlie committee, presented a bouquet of cream roses to Mrs. Cura tilings in appreciation of her splendid work, as president during the year.
