Musketry Instructor

(From “The Dominion,” October 9, 1911.) Lieutenant Wallingford, of the Hythe School of Musketry, will sail in November to develop the science of musketry in New Zealand. The “Morning Post” says that he is probably the best shot in any of the regular armies of the world. « » ♦

The meeting to be held in the Concert Chamber of the Wellington Town Had with reference to the Daylight _ Saving Bill has already attracted a considerable amount of attention among the public, and should be very well attended. The proposal is a novel one, and though it has been before Parliament through the medium of Mr. Sidey’s Bill for some two or three sessions, has not hitherto been treated seriously by members, and consequently has not had the consideration that otherwise would have been accorded to it. The speakers will include Messrs. Fisher. Herdman, Sidey and Isitt, M.P. s, and Mr. G. V. Hudson (who propounded the proposal in a paper read before the New Zealand Institute as long ago as 1895). The Mayor, Mr. T. M. Wiifoid, M.P.. will take the chair. » * »

Golfers made Heretaunga their goal on Saturday to witness the final of the New Zealand'ladies’ golf championship. About 600 players and spectators arrived in time to see the play. The weather was glorious and the course perfect. His Excellency the Governor and Lady Islington accompanied by Captain Shannon and Captain Maitland, were spectators. The play was good for a final, which, by the way, seldom produces a player’s best "olf. Miss L. Brandon kept the' lead to the sixth hole, and then lost four holes in succession to Miss Gould. Then she pulled up again, and scoring was up and down right t 0 the finish, where she holed a long putt in fine style, and then became champion lady golfer for the year.
