MAORI BANK FOOTPATH
No Government Money Advice that the Government had no money for the construction of a footpath from Upper Hutt to Maori Bank was received from the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, by the Upper Hutt
Borough Council last evening. The distance is approximately a mile and a quarter. “I note that you say that this section of highway is used extensively at certain periods bv pedestrian traffic, and that the council is of opinion that grave dangers exist on account of the fast-moving vehicles,” Jlr. Semple said. “1 have discussed the matter with the Main Highways Board, and while sympathetic toward the council's suggestion I regret that at present it is not possible to allocate publie funds for works of this nature. The matter appears to be one which should be considered by th* local authorities concernetl.” The Mayor, Mr. A. J. McCurdy, commented that the Hutt County Council had refused to discuss the matter.
