PAREMATA BRIDGE

Official Opening Toward End of Month Mr. M. G. Templeton, of the Templeton Construction Company, states that be hopes his men who are employed on the construction of the Paremata traffic bridge will be finished in -about a week’s time. The actual bridge work has been completed., The old wooden piles, which were driven temporarily in connection with the laying-in of the concrete piers, have been removed from the harbour bed, and all now is clear along the waterline. The bridge deck will be about seven feet above the water at high tide. There is to be an official opening toward the end of the month, after which the bridge will be open for general traffic and the road via Pabautanui will drop into desuetude as far as traffic to Plimmerton, Karehana Bay and Pukerua is concerned, as the new bridge and road cut out seven miles. There is still some work to be done to the approaches to the bridge, the deck level of which is considerably above the level of the main road at the Paremata end. This is a Public Works Department job, as is also the cutting back of the approach road, but it is anticipated that this work will be completed in time for the official opening at the end of the month.
