ABERDEEN-ANGUS CATTLE
Arrivals From United States BULLS TO BE SOLD BY AUCTION Dominion Special Service. Auckland, July 23. Ten bulls and 11 heifers of the AberdeenAngus breed, comprising the largest and most valuable shipment of a single breed of cattle ever landed in New Zealand, were brought from New York by the Federal steamer Cambridge, which arrived this morning. It is also the first shipment in which there has been no heavy mortality during the passage through the tropics, the only death being that of a can which was born the day after the cattle were shipped, and was killed three days later by its mother rolling on it. The cattle were selected by Mr. Wayland, Hopley, past-president-of the American Aberdeen-Angus Breeders’ Association, and president of Wayland Hopley Farms, Inc., from his own herds at Atlantic, lowa, and from the herds of eight other leading American breeders, and are all descended from international grand champions or American grand champions. They are in charge of Mr. Clinton C. Blake, foreman of the Wayland Hopley Farms. , The cattle will be quarantined at Motuihi Island, where the bulls will be sold by public auction. All the heifers have been purchased by Mr. J. R. Self, of Papatoetoe. who has previously imported bulls of the same breed from Mr. Hopley’s herds.
