ONCE again Cinesound are busy, this time with “Orphan of the Wilderness.” The title is perhaps a little misleading as most of the action takes place in a large travelling circus where one follows the romance of Gwen Munro and Brian Abbott. Miss Munro, who toured New Zealand as “Jill” in “Wind and the Rain,” is’ Australia’s most recent discovery who gained recognition through the medium of a “Search for Beauty” contest, and Brian Abbott, who is also Australian, is dark and handsome —in fact, “the answer to any maiden’s prayer.” Recently residents of the district around the circus “set” were entertained nightly, and the admission charge was free. All that was asked of them was that they laughed heartily and naturally at the spectacular turns enacted in the ring and that wasn’t hard to do. But this audience of extras were alarmed one night and a cry issued from several hundred throats as they watched “Chut,” the prize-boxing kangaroo give a swift kick with his powerful legs and try to tear his hated master, the villainous “Shorty” McGee to pieces. A “panic followed until by gradual degrees they began to comprehend that this incident was meant to happen and had, in fact, been rehearsed many times over and the leering “villain” who had been so brutally prostrated was once again on his feet, smiling and unhurt. v
