NATIONAL DEFENCE COMPANIES
Establishment in Britain
(British Official Wireless.) Rugby, July 21. The Secretary for War, Mr. A. Duff Cooper, announced this afternoon in the House of Commons that the Royal Defence Corps is to be replaced by national defence companies in the ter ritorial army. The role of the companies will be to protect important points in Great Bri tain on threat of war and during war only. Officers and other ranks will consist of ex-members of His Majesty’s forces between the ages of 45 and 60 years. They will not be called up for service until the guarding of Important points becomes necessary, neither will they be called up on account of civil disturbance.
