GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. W. Thomson

There was a happy gathering of the family and friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. Thomson at their residence, Salisbury Street, Ashhurst, on June 16, to celebrate their golden wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Thomson were married at Glenbervie, Kincardineshire, Scotland, on June 16, 1886, by the Rev. W. Gordon, minister of Glenbervie, and came out to New Zealand in 1909. They have resided in the Ashhurst district for the past 27 years. All the family of five sons and one daughter assembled. There are 13 grandchildren and 12 were present. The decorations for the tea were appropriately carried out in autumn shades and gold; a beautiful cake held pride of place, this having been made by Mrs. W. Thomson, of Otaki. The couple were presented with a pair of handsome easy chairs and a wireless set and numerous other presents. Mrs. Thomson also received five beautiful bouquets. One which was much admired was a gift from the ladies’ guild of the Ashhurst Methodist Church. Several messages of congratulations and good wishes were received during the day, including a telegram ffom the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister. Congratulations were also extended to Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Thomson, the youngest son, it being the sixteenth anniversary of their wedding day. Mrs. C. 0. Thomson was presented with a shoulder spray of rose japonica and tuberoses. Solos were given by Mr. N. McKinnon, Carterton, and Mrs. C. 0. Thomson; also duets by Miss Heather McKinnon and Master T. Thomson, Recitations were given by Mrs. Foston, Mrs. John Thomson (Foxton) and Miss Peggy Thomson (Shannon). The accompaniments for the community singing of Scottish and other songs were played by Mrs. John Thomson, Miss Carter and Mrs. C. C. Thomson. Before supper the Rev. Mr. Foston offered a prayer of thanksgiving for the miiny blessings bestowed upbn Mr. and Mrs. W. Thomson during their 50 years of life together and the joy of having all their family spared to honour them on this happy occasion.
