UPPER HUTT RATES
Mayor Wants Reduction
Notice of his intention to move for a reduction in the rates adopted by the Upper Hutt Borough Council at its last meeting ha% been given by the Mayor, Mr. A. J. McCurdy. The motion, which will come before Jie borough council on Monday evening, is: “That the resolution passed at the meeting of the council held on June 8 fixing the general rates for the east and west, wards for the current financial year be rescinded, and the following general and consolidated rates 1 be substituted: (1> For the east ward 3.699 d., otln. rates unaltered, making the consolidated, rate 81d. in £1; (2) for the west ward general rate of 3.96 d.. other rates unaltered, inaking the consolidated rate 9Jd. iu £l.
If Mr. McCurdy’s notice of motion is carried it will mean that the reduction .n the east ward rates will be .721 d. in the £1 and in the west ward .84d.
The rates were increased at the last meeting of the council by .6d. in the east ward ami Id. in the west ward. Mr. McCurdy has also moved that the 40-hour week for the road staff commence on July 1.
