SALE OF RIPOSTE
Sydney Man Pays 800gns. WORK AT RKCARTON Dominion Special Service. Cliristcliurcli, June 18. As several of the Riccarton horses had left for Dunedin and others are due to travel to-night, there was very little of interest at Riccarton to-day, the only notable tasks being executed by Fair Weather and Sisterina. The former ran five furlongs in 1.1 1-5, the last half-mile in 48 3-5, while Sisterina easily accounted for Gayspenr over n similar journey in 1.4 4-5. Solwit jumped three of the brush steeplechase fences well and then cleared two hurdles. He is to have his next race at Oaniaru next week. The sale was completed at Riccarton this morning to R. W. King of the four-year-old gelding Riposte, by Rapier from Warlove, by Martian from Stepdancer. The purchase was made on behalf of Mr. J. A. Roles, of Sydney, who previously through Mr. King bought Seratchmere Scar from the same source. Riposte was bred by Mr. G. G. Holmes, and on the latter’s death was secured by Mr. G. Fulton and H. Nurse in partnership. He has not been raced to a great extent, but bis form both in races and on the tracks has been very impressive. The price was in the vicinity of 800 gujneas.
