VICTORIA LEAGUE

The opportunity was taken at: the monthly committee meeting of the Wellington branch of the Victoria League to welcome the president, Lady Buckle ton, and her daughter, Miss Jean Buckleton, who recently returned from England. Mrs. Doctor, deputy-presi-dent, expressed the pleasure of the league at Lady Buckleton’s return, and presented her with a dainty posy composed of berries and autumn leaves. In reply Lady Buckleton thanked the committee for the welcome, and for their work during her absence. During her stay in London she had seen Miss Gertrude Drayton, C.8.E., who is anticipating with the greatest pleasure her coming visit to Australia and NewZealand.

Arrangements were completed for the bridge evening to be held in July. Miss Tiora Meadows gave a most encourasing report of tile young people’s branch activities. Successful bridge and play-reading evenings have been held, and a dance has been arranged for June 25, to be held at the Kelburn kiosk.

On behalf behalf of the committee, Mrs. Corliss moved a vote of thanks to Mrs. Doctor for her efficient and untiring work as deputy-president. Mrs. Charlesworth was elected a member of the committee, and the names of two new members were received. A number of letters of thanks for parcels and books have been received from people in the country, and from invalids. This branch of the Victoria League work is much appreciated.
