VICTORIA LEAGUE
Empire Day Plans Mrs. J. A. Doctor presided at the monthly committee meeting of the Victoria League, when a number of important matters came up for discussion. With regard to the coming visit of Miss Gertrude Drayton, C.8.E., London secretary, it was stated she will probably be in Wellington toward the end of November, and plans were discussed for her entertainment. The committee intend to organise some bridge parties during the winter months. Owing to court mourning, there will be no social function held this year on Empire Day, the birthday of the late Queen Victoria. On Sunday afternoon next, May 24, at 3 p.m., some floral emblems of remembrance will be placed on the statue of Queen Victoria, in Kent Terrace, in whose memory the Victoria League was founded 35 years ago “To promote closer union between British subjects living in different parts of the world. The British Empire Society and the Navy League are co-operating in this ceremony, and all members and friends and those interested are extended a cordial invitation to be present. A number of letters of thanks for introductions, parcels of books and hospitality have been received.
