Baby Vanishes from Porch Speaking with emotion, a mother told the story at a London police court recently of her frantic search for her six-months-old baby ivnieh disappeared with its perambulator from the porch of her house. In the dock was James Price, aged 42, of no fixed address, on a charge of taking away the baby with intent to deprive the parents o£ the caie of it. and of stealing the perambuiator, value W-. . . „ The mother, Mrs. Florence Davis, of Paddington, related how she left her baby girl in the pram in the porch of her house, of frequently peeping at her. and of finding that she had vanished. “For a moment I felt 1 could sink through the ground,” sue added. “I was told that a man bad gone with a perambulator round tne corner. I rushed in that direction, but could not see anybody. Someone toid a man and be searched in cne direction’ while I went in another. About ten minutes later 1 saw a uolicenian with the baby in the pram.” A constable related _tbat when he heard of the loss of the baoy be commandeered a passing motor-van and was driven through various streets in the district. Three-quarters of a mile from Mrs. Davis’s house be saw Price wheeling the pram with the baby in it. When arrested Plies, replied, “I thought it belonged to a lad.' whom I knew and I was going to take it to the police station'.” Mrs. Davis said she had never seen Price before. Price, who appeared in court wearing a khaki smock and leather gaiters, declared that he was well known iu the district. He added, ”1 thought I would wheel it round. I felt a bit humorous. I bad had a couple of glasses of wine. I iniu uo intention of stealing it.” lie was remanded for medical report.
