VILLAGE OF LONELY FOLKS
Albert Bone, a sixty-one-year-old bachelor, was found dead recently by the village constable in bis cottage at Binstead. Hants. He lived alone A survey just made by tlie local council of 3000 houses in the rural area of Alton revealed that in 234, people are living alone. A “.Sunday Express" representative asked the rural dean, the Rev. T. N. R. Griffin, for au explanation of this high proportion of lonely people in the area. “Sometimes,” lie said. "I tliiuk the beauty of the country attracts old people —for these solitary ones are mostly eighty years of age and over, but there may be health reasons. I buried last week a woman of ninety-four. Another still lives at ninety-six. Both have lived alone here. “Yet, because of the chalk in the water this is reputed to be a place conducive to rlicumatisui.”
