The interest of Canterbury racegoers n will be centred in the autumn meeting of e the Ashburton County Racing Club, to n be held to-morrow. The track should be g in excellent order. The win and place i- betting system will be in use. A Wild Display. Two novice jumpers provided a bit of excitement at Riccarton on Thursday morning with their schooling efforts. Wharemania and Night Wind started off on a round over the steeplechase fences. They shifted about going ro the firo’t brush along the back, where both ran off in determined fashion, flattening the inside wing. G. Ridgway, the rider of Wharemania, bruiwed his left shoulder and received a knock on the right wide of his face. R. W. Watron, the rider of Night Wind, escaped without injury. Night Wind was later mounted by N. Tregonning and was tried again. Ho blundered badly at the first fence, the brush at the top of the straight. The lad received a shaking, but later gave (he horse another trial, lie jumped the first very well, scrambled over the first of the double, but ran off at the second leg, though he cleared if. with a short run afterward. It waa not a good exhibition.
